To be correctly the chilli dog thing is from the Sonic TV series AoStH and Sonic Underground. That's why (almost) everyone does that

Actually, chili dogs are not Sonic's favorite food. That's only in the comics and cartoons, which are not canon. Only thing that's canon is the games.

I think a lot of things from the comics and cartoons work in Sonic's universe, even if they aren't canon. The characters like Sally and Bunny and Rotor (I think that is his name...) could POSSIBLY work, but not likely. I never read the comics so I have no idea how much they are different from the games, but things like the Chilli Dog definately would work since the games don't mention anything about Sonic's favorite food.
